Nalley's First Birthday Luau Party

We threw a Luau Pig Roast for Nalley's first birthday this past Sunday. The day started out overcast and ominous, but turned out to be a beautiful, mild day. It wasn't too hot and there was a perfect breeze for most of the day. It was so much fun.

Brent and Wendy were generous as usual and offered their backyard as our mainland oasis. They have a beautiful backyard and pool and it was the perfect setting for a wonderful party. We rented a special Barbeque and bought a 70 lb. pig from Danny's Whole Hog, it was highly recommended by several of our friends. Shayne cranked it up at 5 a.m. and there were a few glitches along the way, but all was well for an afternoon feast. We finished off the meal with a gorgeous cake from High Tea Bakery, it was delicious.

My fantastic in-laws helped so much with all of the prep work and things looked great. They gave us a awesome surprise when they flew in Shayne's grandparents from B.C. to share the day with us. Sadly, Shayne had to leave for Toronto on Tuesday and hasn't gotten to spend much time with them, but the girls and I are making up for it...we LOVE when they're around.

We had a great time celebrating our little angel (actually Shayne's grandmother has pointed out that Nalley looks like a little cherub, she just needs some wings) with lots of our friends and family. It was a wonderful party, but as I have said several times lately (and I mean it), Nalley is having hot dogs and s'mores for her birthday next year...this Luau was a LOT of work. But, the whole reason that we did it was because the FIRST BIRTHDAY is a REALLY BIG DEAL...right? She'll never have her first birthday we did it in style.

The girls had matching dresses that we picked up in Maui while we were there in March, they looked soooo cute!!! And look at those headbands...I'm usually not a headband fan for babies...just not, but this was my exception, and was cute!

The pig...Wendy kept saying, "can't we just call it pork?"...

The spread of was good

The hybiscus cake, it was so pretty and sooo yummy...or "num-num", as Nalley would say!

Nalley walking over to open her gifts.

We're in tissue paper heaven...

I guess she really liked that card....

I made 12 gift "buckets" for party favors for the was a Hawaiian Luau theme, we couldn't just have it in a bag...we needed some sand pails and shovels. I also made homemade sugar cookies to put inside of each bag, they had Nalley's inital...too bad I didn't get a goody bag.

How sad is it that she won't remember any of this? Thank goodness we got so many good pictures of the day...I'll just have to get busy scrapbooking the memories for her.

Where did you find the clip art used for your favor (yellow chick)?
I am planning on my second first birthday luau in December.

I used the Hula Chick graphics by Nancy Kubo at Little Dreamer Designs.
